Dodge was the dominant mass-market brand in multiple 2020 studies by respected consumer research firm J.D. Power. The carmaker earned top honours in both the Initial Quality and Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) categories.

The 2020 Dodge Challenger, which received recognition as the Best Midsize Sports Car, joins an impressive lineup - including the three-row Durango SUV, the iconic Grand Caravan minivan, and the muscular Charger performance sedan.

In Calgary, Dodge is Best in Initial Quality

The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study looks at the overall performance of major brands. It measures how all vital automotive elements - including engine outputs, safety features, and tech components - fare in real-world situations. The results are measured in problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), so a lower score denotes a more-reliable product.

Dodge earned 136 PP100, while its peers had higher figures. Ford, for example, had 174 PP100; and Mazda came in at a less than inspiring 184 PP100. This demonstrates a painstaking production process, in which the brand emphasizes consumer value and sterling performance.

Dodge Has Plenty of "APEAL" in Calgary

Dodge also earned first place in the Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. This unique research report measures buyer loyalty, consumer advocacy, and overall image of a brand.

A higher score is better on this particular report - and Dodge earned 872 points, which was well above its nearest main competitors (Ford and GMC). They received rankings totalling only 857 and 853.

Even luxury international brands, such as BMW (869), couldn't top Dodge in this study - proving that domestic and domesticated are not the same.

Dodge Challenger: 2020's Best Midsize Sports Car

The 2020 Dodge Challenger got the nod from J.D. Power as the Best Midsize Sports Car. It earned this title thanks to its powerful engines, nine different trims, and overall quality and reliability. In addition to being one of the few in its class to offer AWD (available on the 3.6L V6 SXT and GT models), it also provides more-muscular options. Its 5.7L V8 (on the R/T), 6.4L HEMI SRT (on two Scat Pack), and 6.2L Supercharged SRT V8 (on the three Hellcats) give drivers plenty of power - generating up to 797 HP.

RAM Trucks Also Outperformed the Calgary Competition

Dodge's sister brand, RAM, earned top marks from J.D. Power, as well - with the 1500 named the Best Light Duty Pickup in the US.

RAM also came in second in the 2020 APEAL study, earning 871 points, which was only one less than Dodge. Its Initial Quality score, meanwhile, was strong enough for a third place finish (141 PP100).
